Things My Mom Knows
The mother-daughter relationship can be one of the most emotionally charged ones around. While it can be a tremendously fulfilling relationship, it can also be an explosive powder-keg of wills. Varying with age, the relationship can be positive or prickly, close or...
Women Helping (and Relating To) Women
Women. We're a quirky bunch, aren't we? There is a certain complexity in being a woman. We can love with a capacity that seems almost unfathomable, and then two minutes later, we want to claw someone's eyes out. We can find so much joy in building others up, and by...
The Self Esteem Tsunami: A Summer Camp Success Story
This being my first-ever full-day camp, I was honestly quite pleased with the results. The partnership of Self Esteem Through Art with Drama Kids worked really well, and this pairing has the potential to be HUGE if we can focus and put in some hard work. We also had a phenomenal group of kids; a great mix of ages, genders, talents, and confidence levels. Everyone brought something to the table at the beginning of the week, whether it was sense of humor, creativity, or leadership skills, and left at the end of the week with something extra.
Why Did the Woman Stop Masturbating?
This post is about missed opportunities. It is about fear. It is about the gremlins that live in our heads, robbing us of so much joy and so much goodness. It is about the mistruths that take up residence in the recesses of our psyches, and the subsequent dreams that...
See the Pretty Swan
While chaperoning my daughter's 2nd grade field trip last week, I got to be one with nature for a couple hours. As nature is prone to do, it gave me pause and spawned some deeper thoughts. The setting for this week's thoughts was the Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary....
Social Media Detox, Part II
It's happened again. I spent a day alone at the beach yesterday. A much, much needed day alone. Just me, my iPod, a journal, my camera, and my thoughts. I walked. I thought. I daydreamed. I reflected. And, I came upon the very tangible realization that I need another...
I’m Worried About You
Hey, you! Pssstt! Yes, YOU! Come over here, please. I am beckoning you closer. Yes, even closer still. We need to be knee to knee for this conversation -- because it is going to be deep and a little uncomfortable, for both of us. I want to talk to you about something...
“But” Is A Four-Letter Word
"I love you, but..." "I hate my job, but..." "I want to be healthier, but..." "I would love to be more adventurous/make more money/travel the world, but..." "I would love to do what you do, but..." "I've always wanted to...but..." But this. But that. But. But. But....
It’s Like Faking an Orgasm
I have GOT to stop doing it. I've tried before, but it's ingrained, perhaps a part of my DNA. It's been part of my character for quite some time. It seems to be who I am. I am a self-professed minimizer. There, I said it. I'm an 'it's okay'-er. A 'don't worry...
My Other Blog Is Awesome, Too.
Many of you may know that I was recently asked to be a writer for Zujava, an article sharing Web site. Zujava is a great place to share knowledge and ideas, become a recognized expert in a field, and get paid for your expertise. (If you want to sign up to be a writer,...
I’m Having Trouble Finding the Words
I've had an immense case of writer's block lately! It's not that the words aren't there -- I think of blog ideas all the time. I am inspired when I exercise (remind me to tell you about my mind-blowing, maiden voyage into yoga), when I work (I need to share my new...
You Inspire Me, But…
I am going to go on record with something today, and you can certainly choose to agree with me or disagree with me: I believe there is a massive difference between inspiring someone and being an inspiration. Why do I say this, you ask? Well, let me tell you. And, also...
