Description
I am definitely solar powered, and each year I develop a massive case of spring fever! This has been a part of my DNA since I was a kid. In those days, it meant making sure I was playing outside as much as possible. When I got a little older, it meant driving my parents’ Subaru wagon through the town center with the windows down and the radio blaring. When I got to college, it meant that I stacked my course load in the fall and winter and any spring classes were scheduled first thing in the morning so I could spend my afternoons tanning on the quad. Now, it means gardening, taking long walks, sitting on my deck with a good book, and escaping to the ocean as much as humanly possible.
The outdoors is one of my greatest teachers. Always has been. Always will be. I love to pass that wisdom on any chance I get.
With the advances in (and our dependence on) technology we are becoming more and more disconnected and distracted. This class will have its roots in all things nature. We will be bringing the outdoors in. We will be working with materials synonymous with the natural world. We will be brainstorming ways to nurture, protect, and enhance our environment. And, we will be diving into a very rich social/emotional growth curriculum via teachings of nature, including flora and fauna, wildlife, and even the cosmos. I can’t wait to launch this program!
Your Girls Will Love:
- Disconnecting from stress, technology, and peer pressure. We are going to get as much fresh air as we can and find creative ways to record our observations.
- The wide assortment of art projects and mediums. They are designed to be a reflection of each child’s unique spirit and creative voice.
- Using the creative arts as a way to develop critical thought and an open-mind.
- The sense of community and collaboration.
