TEXTURE HUNTING: There is literally beauty all around us and I honestly can’t think of a better way to kick off our 5th annual retreat! This bonus workshop combines many of my favorite creative concepts: combining tactile and visual elements, open-ended exploration, and joyful collaboration. Whenever I texture hunt, I have an eye for oft-overlooked details in mind. I’m using active observation and engaging with everyday objects in unexpected ways. This activity is mindful and meditative in the best of ways! Texture hunting is an incredibly fun way to elevate your art practice as a whole and expand your creative repertoire. After participating in this workshop, I can almost guarantee you will take pause and look at any environment you’re in with a shiny new perspective and beautiful patterns in mind. When we’re able to see things through a new lens, possibility and magic finds us everywhere!

During this session, I will go over your class kit with you, explain the texture hunting process, teach you about both positive and negative impressions, go over ethical ways to “leave no trace” and be a responsible texture hunter, share some texture hunting hotspots with you, and give you ideas for how to incorporate your textures and patterns into the weekend’s activities and art projects. The class will end with some sharing and collaboration.

Class takes place on June 4th from 5:30-8 p.m. Each participant will receive a class kit and instructions. Snacks will be provided for attendees.
