Transforming Your Alcohol Inks With Pen Work

$27.99

I’ve had a pretty committed, three year love affair with alcohol inks. The love affair ebbs and flows: there are times where it is pretty hot and steamy, and then times where it is more basic and predictable. And, like all great love affairs, it is a give and take. Alcohol inks have brought joy back into my art practice. They help me focus on the process and be more forgiving, both as an artist and as a human. They encourage me to experiment without regret and play like I am in kindergarten. In turn, I eagerly and passionately return to them over and over again and sing their praises far and wide.

In this live online class, I want to teach you how to tune into the hidden messages, images, and energies in your alcohol ink prints. And, once we’ve tapped into those things, I will share my process for transforming your prints with pen work, lettering, and doodles. Adding doodles and mark-making is a phenomenal way to infuse all of your art with your unique style, personality, and view of the world around you. It’s a way to empower and uplift! It’s one of my favorite things to do—I find this type of art-making so relaxing and cathartic. Honestly, who can’t use a bit more of that in 2020?

This incredible class will take place on November 18, 2020 at 4 p.m. EST. (*Class will be recorded, in the event that you can’t join live.) This is a perfect class for beginners and intermediate artists who are looking to become more familiar with this medium, but also transform their art practice.

*There are no refunds for this class. Prior to registering, please be sure you can either make it live or have the ability to watch the recording. Zoom link will be sent to your email a couple days before class. Full class description and materials list below.

Materials Needed:

You will need to have a few materials on hand and should also plan to have at least 2 completed (and fully dry) alcohol ink prints that are ready to be transformed. Shop small when you can, but when that isn’t possible you can purchase all supplies easily from art supply stores or Amazon.

  • Alcohol Inks (choose your preferred brand from manufacturers like Ranger, Piñata, and Copic). I recommend having at least 3 colors on hand.
  • A non-porous substrate like Yupo or Nara papers. We will be using papers in this class, so please make sure your substrate is from one of these companies.
  • Alcohol Ink Blending Solution or 91% Isopropyl Alcohol (which is harder to get due to covid).
  • Two Posca Pens. At minimum, you should have both a white and a black pen in your desired thickness (I tend to use fine or ultra fine tips for most of my art)
  • Optional: Gelly Roll gel pens in your choice of colors.
  • *REMEMBER: please have two completed prints you can work on. I will NOT be teaching you how to create an alcohol ink print today. We will be working on transforming existing prints.

Course Info:

This class will take place LIVE on November 18 at 4 p.m. EST.

You will be sent a Zoom link with password at least 24 hours before the class. Please make sure you enter a working email that you check often when registering for class—the link will be sent to that email address.

If you cannot attend live, please know that I will be recording this class and will send it to you in its entirety on November 19. This will enable you to get the full classroom experience and work at your own pace.

I look forward to creating beautiful things with you!
