There’s a song that states you gotta know when to hold ’em, and when to fold ’em. And, yes, that would definitely be true. But sometimes, you also need to Up the Ante! What do I mean by “Up the Ante?” In card games, it means to increase your risk level or your demands in order to achieve a better result. In this multi-faceted art class, it means increasing your artistic knowledge-base so that you can elevate your art practice (thereby, also getting a better result).

In this exciting, eight-week art series for women, our substrate is going to be a deck of playing cards. Attendees will learn how to work within a theme or color palette, will learn assorted mixed-media techniques for decorating their deck, and will also learn how to bind and organize the deck. By the end of the series, each participant will have a one-of-a-kind book that was entirely created and bound with their own two hands. Possibilities are endless (think: junk journal, inspiration deck, mini scrapbook, book of quotes, a place to store your ideas/observations, a book of memories, etc)!

Description

Art classes are exquisite opportunities for self-care—especially THESE art classes! Art is good for your emotional, mental, cognitive, and physical health, and you will find yourself exhaling deeply as you put the world on pause in the Self Esteem Through Art studio for a little while each week. Expanding your artistic toolkit boosts confidence in the studio and it also helps you with your confidence OUTSIDE of the studio. Women often express how confident, grounded, and calm they feel as a result of these programs. Some of the specific things people will learn in this series:

  • How to create a themed body of work and then work effortlessly within that theme.
  • The art and ease of “batch creating.”
  • The joy of monoprinting and working in layers.
  • How to block print (and create your own linocuts).
  • How to bind and create your very own book!
  • SO much more!

Fine Print:

  • Choose your preferred day (either Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. or Fridays from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.). This eight-week series will take place beginning the week of March 25 and going through the week of May 20. Wednesday series starts on March 27 and Friday starts on March 29.
  • Advance registration is required!  A minimum of five women is needed in each class in order for them to run (spread the word and bring a friend). Registration will close on March 15, or whenever class sells out.
  • The studio is located at 1038 Aquidneck Ave in Middletown, RI (enter through the door on the right, 2nd floor).
  • All art materials are included in the fee.
  • You will receive a welcome email from us approximately one week before class starts with additional details. Please be sure to include your best email address when signing up.
  • Registrants are added to our email newsletter lists. You will begin to receive sporadic Self Esteem Through Art emails.
  • We will address any weather-related cancellations on an as-needed basis and make determinations on how to make up the time.
  • As these classes are taught concurrently, you may switch back and forth between sessions upon occasion (for example, if you have an appointment on Friday, you may attend the Wednesday the same week).
  • If you have any additional questions, please reach out to me before signing up. Once you sign up, we have entered into a contract with each other.
  • Due to the advance preparation and extensive materials required for this class, there will be no refunds. If notified of cancellations by March 15, you can get a credit towards another Self Esteem Through Art program (*minus the materials and processing fees).
